Who We Are

The Middle Rio Grande Development Council (MRGDC) plays a vital role in advancing regional economic development. It serves as a catalyst for local initiatives, providing a platform for regional partners and stakeholders to connect, share information, and address common challenges—fostering collaboration and regionalism.

Within the scope of its statutory authority, the Council has established overarching goals that complement its individual program plans and are reflected in its Annual Program of Work. These goals include:

  • Enhancing Regional Economic Capacity: Strengthening the region’s economy to create more robust economic opportunities for its citizens.

  • Empowering the Workforce: Improving the skills and capabilities of the regional labor force to fully capitalize on emerging economic opportunities.

  • Strengthening Local Governance: Building the capacity of local governments and public service institutions to deliver high-quality services that support regional development efforts.

  • Enhancing Quality of Life: Elevating the quality of life for all residents, with particular focus on the region’s elderly population.

  • Promoting Efficiency in Service Delivery: Reducing unnecessary duplication of programs and administrative efforts through initiatives like the Texas Review and Comments System.

These goals collectively reinforce MRGDC’s commitment to fostering economic growth, improving public services, and ensuring a better future for the region’s communities.
